Woman of the Month

Woman Of The Month - Barbara Basalgete

Barbara describes herself as a 'Ghanaian-American-French' forty-something.. She lives with Nicolas, her husband and business partner and their daughter in Nice. Barbara has such a positive outlook on life and takes the necessary steps to live a healthy lifestyle to meet with her demanding and busy days. Recently she started her own juicing business and loves to share her knowledge and the benefits of juicing.

We asked Barbara our famous 5 little questions and this is how she replied:

1) What makes you smile?

It sounds kind of funny, but people who are having a bad day make me smile because instinctively they smile back and hopefully their day gets better. I do it all the time in the tramway especially during rush hour when it's packed and hot. Inevitably, you will find some grumpy faces trying to avoid any eye contact, and those are the people who make me smile, and about 75% of the time, they end up smiling too.

2) What or who inspires you?

Every living thing who has crossed my path. It takes immense love and willingness for life to express itself, so any expression of life has something to teach me whether the encounter is painful or pleasurable.

3) Do you believe in gut instincts?

Only when my mind is calm. This is how I discern whether the feeling is from the heart or the mind.

4) Your three essential things if you were stuck on a dessert island would be what?

- a solar-powered juicer (hopefully there will be fruits and edible plants)
- a yoga mat
- patience

5) If you are planning a day/night out, what do you enjoy doing the most?

I don't get a lot of quality time with my 7-year old daughter, so I love planning a day out with her - just the two of us. We go hiking not too far from where we live and I really enjoy seeing her embodiment of freedom in her complete trust in nature. She is more afraid of being locked in a comfortable room with loads of toys than walking on the edge of a steep hill. She is a great teacher to me, and it is when we are in the middle of nowhere without much distraction that I see the lessons she teaches me…these are the sweetest moments for me.
