Woman of the Month

Woman Of The Month - Lucy Coote

Lucy Coote was born and brought up in Sheffield, UK and had a lovely, middle-class, northern childhood with plenty of common sense and lots of good values. She lived there until she was 18 and then her Mum literally pushed her out of the nest to spread her wings and learn about other places in the world.

Lucy had trained to be a private nanny and her first job was in Paris looking after two children. She stayed with the family for over a year and then when she returned to Sheffield she was eager to leave again very soon. Living in Paris gave her a taste of independence, travel and experiencing different cultures - she wanted more. So Lucy's adventure continued and she was able to work and live in many countries as a nanny before landing a superb job in Formula One which gave Lucy a career that span over ten years and took her all over the world. Lucy met some amazing people and experienced some incredible things. The very male-dominated environment was a lurning curve but with the team she quickly learnt to work hard and play hard. Lucy believes she was really was very fortunate knowing that she just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Lucy then left her career to get married, but sadly it didn’t to last so she arrived in Monaco as a newly divorced 30 year old to work for the VIP F1 party, Amber Lounge. Amber Lounge had just been launched and Sonia Irvine, the owner, was an F1 buddy of hers who asked Lucy to work with her.

Lucy's parents at the time lived in Provence so coming to Monaco was perfect and she ended up working for Amber Lounge for over 4 years, helping to grow the event into the success story it is today.

Being based in one place after all the traveling in Formula One suited Lucy and she soon came to love Monaco and the wonderful people who lived here. Lucy has lived in Monaco for nearly 13 years and has gone through the whole spectrum from arriving as a single girl, working there, getting married there and becoming a Mum. Monaco is the place she calls home.

About 6 years ago Lucy met her now husband, Patrick through a mutual friend, and they had their daughter, India, 5 years ago. Since then, until fairly recently, she has been a full time Mum which has been an ever-changing journey, a huge learning curve and given her the best years of her life to date.

About 6 months ago Lucy decided to reignite a business that I had just started to grow before she fell pregnant. Ginger Lime and Honey is so-called because in India (a country she is very attached to) Lucy used to drink an energising drink consisting of hot water, ginger, lime and honey. It was the lovely healthy flavours and colours the drinks represents inspired the name of the business. The heart of Ginger Lime and Honey is about holistic well-being, and so she now works part-time as an Ayurvedic Masseuse and Trigger Point Therapist.

Lucy really loves her work because of the people she is able to help and feel good. Her philosophy for life is to live it fully, mindfully and with as much fun as possible. The sudden death of her Mum in 2013 from a rare disease made Lucy really realise exactly what those words meant. Her mum always used to say that this life is no dress rehearsal and to live right here, right now - which is exactly what she is doing.

We asked Lucy our famous 5 questions and this is what she told us:

1) What makes you smile?

I tend to smile quite a lot of the time so many things can make me smile. For example, old people holding hands. A hot bath at the end of a cold day. Having fun with those I love. Making people feel better. Dry, sarcastic British humour. Sunshine and blue sky days. Being in one of my favourite two countries in the world, Italy and India. My daughter when she says something funny. My husband when he surprises me. Beautiful shoes!

2) What or who inspires you?

People that give from the heart and make a difference in our world inspire me the most. People who are, above all, compassionate and kind. A touch of pure kindness from someone inspires me to do the same. Inspiration, I find, comes from the smallest of acts and the biggest of people.

3) Do you believe in gut instincts?

Absolutely! Your inner guide, or gut instinct, is the one to trust I believe. If you are still and listen you can hear what it is telling you. We all instinctively know what’s best for us and I believe that whatever is happening at a certain moment in time is always happening with your best interest at heart. Life is a game of risk, adventure and lessons.

4) Your essential three things if you were stuck on a desert island would be what?

Gosh, that’s a tricky one! I’d have to say my yoga mat, my iPad and a good, long book!

5) If you are planning a day/night out, what do you enjoy doing the most?

My ideal day/night would be waking up early, driving over to Italy with my family for a beautiful lunch, having a walk around the shops, stopping for a mid-afternoon coffee, having an aperitif in a great bar and finally enjoying a wonderful dinner over a good bottle of wine. I do like dancing too so if I was feeling particularly energetic I may go on somewhere to have a boogie!
