May we go from strength to strength...
It's already May... flowers in bloom, and that wonderful scent of summer in the air. I recently spent the most fantastic weekend in London visiting family and fulfilling the role of godmother to a beautiful little baby boy, my nephew. It was an incredibly joyful christening and then it hit me! What does this actually mean? Am I supposed to grow up? Because I never really have...
I came to the conclusion that I will always do my very best for my godson and be there whenever he needs me. I am not particularly religious, well not in the conventional sense of the word but have a deep philosophical contentment of what it means to me. During the ceremony my other sister read out a verse that resonated through me. This piece had been found on Mother Teresa's wall at a children home in Calcutta. I don't think you need to be religious to comprehend the sentiment of what was written because with a little reflection, it all makes sense. It's powerful and poignant and full of passion and here it is:
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true friends; succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world your best anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
I suppose the lesson, if indeed there is one, is to just be you, and to learn to filter out all those negative vibes, smashing those barriers in favour of building strong foundations so your empire reflects all that you are.
