A Glass Act

It is said that a picture paints a thousand words and this can be equally said about any work of art.

Frédéric Pelissier is a Master Glass Artist. He creates unique pieces/objects working from his workshop in Sainte Agnes – a village high above Menton. Using colourful glass he skillfully designs and constructs anything from lamps to mirrors, to glass boxes, decorative bowls and jewellery. His craftmanship is exceptional and a joy to see.

He explains that his technique originates from a old method used by the Egyptians and through the ages the art form has been modified and simplified. Frédéric then demonstrates how to fuse pieces of glass together. He attaches a wafer thin strip of copper which has a sticky back, around the edges of the glass and then using a heating rod, pewter is melted over the copper surface which binds each piece with the other. The ability to design and create something new and exciting is always stimulating amd invigorating.

There is a particular piece of glass-art that sits proudly in one corner of Frédéric's workshop and holds fond memories for the artist. This, his first piece is symbolic of the new path he took to establish himself as an artisan but not just an artisan but an artisan that could exist from the 'fruits of his labour'. This was his mission: 'I want to live from the work I love to do'. And since 1983, this is exactly what he has done.

His 'atelier' workshop is fronted by a walk-in showroom where you will be bedazzled by all the beautiful pieces of work that he creates.

In 2002 Frédéric joined forces with Chrystine Cacciaguerra, a former architect and designer. She too is an artisan in her own right. Chrystine brings a new dimension and essence to the boutique. Her contribution and style complements that of  Frédéric, making this relationship a synergy made in glass heaven.

What is far more interesting is the work that you do not see in his showroom. This is work that he has been commissioned to do and these bespoke pieces really are tailored to your wishes, dreams and desires.

I was on a mission when I went to see Frédéric. I had known him for many years and felt confident that he could repair a mirror that I broke some years ago.

A fantastic result. It is a superb boutique but don't take my word for it, go and visit it for yourself.
