Feeling The Hashtag Love

As I sat on a bench enjoying the sound of the waves gently washing over the pebbly beach and thinking how perfect this all is, I came crashing down to mother earth with a great big hashtag bang. Next to me, I could hear the most bizarre of bizarre conversations and it went something like this..."Hi there, shall we meet this hashtag afternoon? OK see you at the hashtag gelateria? Why not join me this hashtag evening too? Wow hashtag cool!" And so it continued... What! Or is hashtag What!?
I must point out that the conversation did not take place in English... and for someone who can now officially swear in 3 languages, I do not understand why, je ne comprends pas porquoi, non capisco perche, there is a need to hijack the beautiful art of language with one that does not stretch the hashtag imagination. Oh no, I think it's catching...
I believe I have quite an extensive bank of words that I can use on a daily basis without the necessity to repeat a word that has been created for the purpose of social media. Maybe 'it' has finally happened... and I have crossed into the the category of 'grumpy old women'!
In truth I do find this new form of communicating very amusing and extremely fascinating. Communication has always formed an important factor in both my personal and professional life. It drives nations, enterprise and great living. Communicate well and the sky's the limit - people will remember you for being a good communicator. I took part in a speech contest as one of the judges and at the end I said: 'It's not what you say but it's how you say it, and when you have mastered how you say it - you can say anything you want, with confidence and authority.' I truly believe this.
Language and ways of communicating has evolved, and my belief is that it doesn't really matter how we actually converse, as long as it is done with sincerity and hashtag love. I may not embrace the hashtag phenomenon myself but will probably chuckle and observe with hashtag curiosity as to what the next hashtag trend will be! So on that note... Have a fantastic hashtag summer!
