Mrs Eline de Kat, Artistic Administrator of the Opera of Monte-Carlo, unveiled the new season last night at CREM, commenting on their rich programme to look forward to, while music from a few operas were played by Russian Violinist Alexandre Guerchovitch and Russian Pianist Kira Parteevets.

The first production will be in  November with the romantic piece Duello Amoroso of Handel under the musical direction of Nathalie Stuzmann who will also be singing as contralto, and Soprano Lisa Larsson who sang at Prince’s Albert wedding. This will be followed by Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West to be performed on the occasion of Monaco’s National Day, with only one woman in a cast of many men.

In December there will be a Jules Massenet recital to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his death, and during Christmas time the whole family will be able to enjoy the musical Man of La Mancha of Mitch Leigh based on the story of Don Quixote. January will bring La Traviata of Giuseppe Verdi with two excellent sopranos, Albanian Inva Mula and Bulgarian Sonya Yoncheva. It is incredible to think that this famous opera was booed by the public when it opened at La Fenice in Venice in 1853.

In February the 200th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner will be celebrated with a concert in two acts from La Walkyrie and Tristan and Isolde. And La Sonnambula one of the best works of Vicenzo Bellini with the performance by the Chorus of the Opera de Monte-Carlo.  March will mark the return to Monaco of the Diva mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli presenting works from her new CD. Also in the programme for March is Amica of Pietro Mascagni and Bryn Terfel Bad Boys with Opera arias and choruses.  The grand finale will be in April with Verdi’s Stiffelio with Jose Cura the prominent operatic tenor from Argentina.
