Monegasques and Latvians alike came to support their teams at the Monte-Carlo Country Club on the first day of Davis Cup under a warm Mediterranean sun, joining the Baroness Elizabeth-Ann de Massy, President of the Monegasque Tennis Federation (MTF), her daughter Melanie Antoinette de Massy, Jean-Paul Samba, Vice President of the MTF and his wife and Francis Truchi, Treasurer of the MTF. As expected favourite 55 ATP ranked player Ernests Gulbis got one point for Latvia during the first singles in a fierce battle against Jean-Rene Lisnard in three straight sets, while Monegasque Benjamin Balleret leveled the field by beating Latvian Andis Juska in four sets in the second match. Tomorrow at 13:00hs Guillaume Couillard will pair up with Thomas Oger to defend the Monaco colours against the Latvian duo Gulbis-Juska in a doubles encounter no to be missed.
