The last home game of the season and Monaco rose to the occasion defeating Le Mans 2-1 with goals by Toure and Germain, and winning the League 2 championship.

Goal by Toure

This victory brings memories of Monaco’s glorious past, having won the French championship seven times, having six domestic cups to their name, and having been runners-up in both the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Champions League in 1192 and 2004. At the end of the game the fans rushed onto the field to join the players chanting frenetically and waving their flags, an incredible sight plus the fireworks as a final touch. It was a long and arduous road but their team is finally back on first division and there is a lot to cheer for.  The players joined their coach Claudio Ranieri and proceeded to the honour box to salute club president Dmitry Rybolovlev, State Minister Michel Roger and Minister of Interior Paul Masseron, while HSH Prince Albert could not be present on this special evening but sent a congratulatory message that was delivered by Jacques Boisson Secretary of State. The photographers were ready for the championship ceremony, but unfortunately there was no Trophy to be lifted by the Monaco team, as the responsible for the French Football League did not deliver it, probably as a demonstration of their discontent for ASM Monaco not yielding to their unjust demands of moving their head office to France.  But tonight it is all about celebrating and we will leave it for tomorrow how to successfully deal with the unjust requirements of the French Football League and move forward.
