A Learning Curve...

We often hear the words 'knowledge is power' and today we can obtain knowledge through many mediums but especially through education. Education is something we take for granted. We go to school, then college or university and then, when we want to increase knowledge in any chosen field, we seek organisations for further education. How lucky we are! We can choose whatever we want to do.

Have you stopped to think what it would be like, what our lives would be like if we were denied the right to have schooling? In the world today, there are communities and individuals that go to great lengths to learn in order to better circumstances. At the recent Media Forum, organised by The International Club of The Riviera with the subject of 'Human Rights', we spoke of these issues and at an event for International Women's Day organised by Professional Women's Network, we watched the moving film 'Girl Rising' and saw howbyoung girls from difficult backgrounds embraced the challenges they faced in order to be educated. It is most empowering to see how effective we can be too. Julie Hellon who I interviewed a couple of years ago, dedicates her life to an organisation called Kenyan Kids which helps children to gain the necessary skills to improve their opportunities.

This is proof that we can make that difference and in so many ways. A journey starts with small steps... Where are you going to go? In my personal video for International Women's Day, I say that as women we should learn to celebrate 'every' day. See video
