Italian television doesn't often receive good press but one television series has become quite legendary. Set in Sicily Inspector Salvo Montalbano is the charming dedicated crime buster with a true passion for food. The BBC began to air a subtitled version in 2012 and has since become quite an institution with the British audience.

Inspector Montalbano is the creation of Italian novelist Andrea Camilleri, whose first Montalbano novel was published in Italian in 1994. The television series features breathtaking scenery, quirky characters and the Inspectors commitment to crime solving is balanced equally with his passion for the local culinary specialties. You will look forward not only to the plot each episode but each meal that Montalbano embraces. His relationship with food is somewhat critical to his character. Look out of Adelina's arancini... Prepare to be entertained!

Here is a short clip with subtitles of the show.
