When speaking with any artist the usual stereotypical questions are the norm. Such as why a particular theme was chosen, the colours used, where the inspiration came from and so forth... Having featured Marta Grigorieva as Artist of the Month back in February, we were in awe of her style, strong use of colour and feminine theme.

So what made the artist suddenly decide to deface her own work?

Marta Grigorieva with 'Love and Fortune'

Marta Grigorieva's recent exhibition titled 'Demystification' does exactly that. Marta has added 'Pop ups' and graphics in order to make a statement, a statement that she says is to raise question as to what is real? She talks of the 'everyday sometimes superficial Monaco existence...'

It is as though what Marta has created on canvas, that once represented perfection and idealism, now hangs heavy on her own soul. Could her ambiguity actual symbolise a discontentment in her own life? Does the defacing of 14 paintings mirror a shattered dream? Or is Marta trying to manipulate us into thinking too profoundly? Art for art sake...
