We have certainly had a magnificent Spring time.  Cloudless skies and balmy evenings have reminded us that Summer is truly on the way.

I was invited to a Summer Solstice Party and get-together on Saturday 20th June organised by George Kasiliyake, who founded 'The International Club' here on the Riviera. The event was held at the beautiful home of Elizabeth Morgan, BBC actress and writer. It was a relaxed gathering of about 45 people of all different ages and nationalities. I was pleased to meet up with some people I already knew and some who I had only been in contact through email over the past few years, such as Jacquie from Deseo Design. The bar was run by Fine Wine Works, who are well known to The Riviera Woman, as Helen already gives us a great insight into the world of wine. A bonus to the event, was that funds were raised through raffles for the International Club’s chosen charity of Arogya Agam, which supports children in India orphaned by AIDS. The atmosphere was complimented with music from 3 Jazz musicians called 'Martinique'. George was the perfect host, keeping us well entertained and our taste buds were treated to some fine cuisine, organised by George himself.

Elizabeth Morgan added to the fun of the evening by performing a druid Summer Solstice ritual which blessed the four elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

A little more gentle networking and some dancing really brought the evening to a wonderful close. I can honestly say that it was a wonderul way for me to spend my birthday.

Information: Solstice, from the latin for sun stands still. For several days before and after each solstice, the sun appears to stand still in the sky. That is, its noontime elevation does not seem to change.
