For August Deborah Sheffield of Corkers Fine Wines has selected
Urban Uco Sauvignon Blanc from Argentina.

Urban Uco Sauvignon Blanc

This wine was recommended by the New York Times wine panel July 22, 2009, as the top Argentine Sauvignon Blanc tasted.

Urban Uco Sauvignon Blanc is an exciting new white wine gem from the beautiful Uco Valley of Argentina. At the turn of the millennium, the Spanish family Ortega Gil-Fournier founded a small boutique winery at the foot of the Andes in the Mendoza region. Bodega y Viñedos O. Fournier owns three estates some 15 km from the Andes Range, covering 286 hectares. A total of 94 are currently planted with vines, some of which are over 30 years old. The region is approximately 3,950 ft above sea level, and the water that irrigates the estates flows pure and clean from snow melt on the Andes.

Urban Uco Sauvignon Blanc is soft yellow-green in color with an aromatic nose of citrus, tropical fruits, apples, and floral notes. Light-medium in body with bright acidity and a rich mouthfeel, the wine offers flavors of grapefruit, passionfruit, green apples, and spice. Fermented for 10 days in stainless steel, with no barrel aging, it is nicely balanced to enjoy now and over the next 4-5 years. The wine is long and refreshing on the finish.

Enjoy Urban Uco Sauvignon Blanc as the perfect aperitif and with grilled shrimp, roast chicken, red snapper, pasta, and cheeses.

As always we at Corkers Fine Wines strive to introduce new, exciting wines to our range and we believe we’ve found a gem with this one. For the 2006 vintage this wine received 87 points from Wine Spectator – quite impressive for a wine that costs 9.00 euros !!!
