Getting Back To Work Tips

For whatever reason you have been out of work: raising a family, redundancy, or a desire to do something else, we have 5 great tips that will help you and guide you in the right direction.

1. Set realistic goals...

Keep and set your goals small and simple, so whatever your task is for the day is do-able. If your goal for the day is to contact and apply to companies, don't set the bar too high. If you say that you are going to send 20 applications out in one day, you may not reach that but if you set your challenge to just three, you may indeed do five and that will give you the confidence boost you need. Don't be hard on yourself!

2. Has your industry changed since you were last a part of it? Do some research or read up on the latest speciality journals and equally beneficial is to contact your old colleagues to find out about the changes and what you should know.

3. Plan your future...

Identify your goals and be aware of what skills and experience is necessary for you to make your goal achievable.

4. Fill in the gaps...

Knowledge is power. If you need to know something, search online for free advice. There is so much information on the web that is available and can help to steer you in the right direction.

5. Build a network...

It can be daunting attending events in person when you are out of touch, so start online by searching for networking possibilities or credible forums, that don't ask you for large sums of money upfront. If you have the opportunity, go with a friend. Meeting other like-minded people in person will help you with your people skills and it is a great confidence booster.
