An Interview with... Sandra Richez

Sandra Richez is the Co-President & VP Corporate Partnerships for the Professional Women's Network of Nice-Côte d'Azur. The Riviera Woman talks with Sandra about her career, her role with the Professional Women's Network and life on the French Riviera.

Sandra is the Director of EDHEC Business School’s Global MBA Program. She has over 20 years experience in Education, HR development and career management, particularly in developing high-potential managers in companies such as Disney and Véolia, and in career services at ESSEC-Cornell University and EDHEC Business Schools.

With experience in hotels, tourism and environmental services, Sandra developed or facilitated management training, executive development programs and corporate university programs for Disney, Intercontinental, Choice, Accor and Véolia with programs in France, Europe, South America and the Middle East and Africa.

Sandra holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Tufts University in Boston, and a Master’s degree from ESSEC Business School and Cornell University. She is a certified professional coach (IDC).

A native New Yorker who has adopted France as her home country, Sandra has travelled extensively and lived in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Brazil, bringing strong intercultural sensitivity to her work. She enjoys the outdoors, boating, travelling and cooking with her husband, three children and golden retriever.

What does International Women's Day mean to you?

Sandra: "I began celebrating International Women’s Day when I realized how little we as women appreciate ourselves. As a professional woman, mother of three great kids, wife and daughter I realise that I give a lot of support to people around me, but one thing I notice is how little women give themselves credit for all we contribute to daily life. So each year I make a point of giving us women our well-deserved moment of celebration and recognition."

How and why did you become involved with the PWN?

Sandra: "I got involved in PWN thanks to one of our MBA students who joined the association several years ago and co-organised an event on EDHEC campus around the incredibly inspirational Girl Rising film. I was very moved by the film and how all women should be involved in helping bring up other women. After talking with my student, we proposed a longterm partnership with PWN – I became a member and the following year VP Corporate Partnerships and now Co-President, I am really happy to contribute and looking forward to bringing broader impact to PWN Nice in the coming year with my extraordinary Co-President Sandrine Martin and a talented team of VPs and Student Volunteers.

We also asked Sandra our famous 5 questions and this is how she replied:

1) What makes you smile?

Goofing around with Snapchat filters with my teenage daughter.

2) What or who inspires you?

I am most inspired by nature, the sea in particular. When it comes to people who inspire me, there are many! Of late I have been inspired by Michelle Obama for her own story of beating tough odds to gain a top-notch education, become a lawyer and her ongoing work in promoting education and ambition among young girls around the world.

3) Do you believe in gut instincts?

I believe in intuition.

4) Your three essential things if you were stuck on a desert island would be what?

Sunscreen, a mask/snorkel, a ukulele (I don’t know how to play but this would be the ideal time to learn and no one to hear me sing!)

5) If you are planning a day/night out, what do you enjoy doing the most?

One of my favorite things is taking a boat to Iles de Lerins near Cannes, enjoying lunch, a swim, snorkeling, paddle-boarding, walk around Ile Saint Honorat, a climb up the 13th century fortified monestary for the views, ending the day with Rosé apéro at sunset over the Esterel peaks to the west. If you give me the night I sleep over on the boat and enjoy stargazing, constellation-spotting and sunrise the next morning!
