The Final Frontier
How wonderful it would be be if speed travel really existed... I'm talking about how those famous Star Trek words 'Beam me up Scotty' were followed by a couple of button pushes and a slider meaning that anyone could arrive at any chosen destination within seconds. OK, this means of travel was used for galactic expeditions and I would only want to have use of such a 'transporter' for nipping around Europe... for now! Wouldn't that just be great!
I can see only one flaw in this form of travel... no more hours browsing around duty free at airports being tempted by all sorts of exclusive goodies but there again, more time would be available to head to the largest shopping centre once destination had been achieved within seconds thanks to a Scotty-style hop.
This idea of fast travel sounds great but leaves me reflecting on the way we travel through life... We set out our goals, not always knowing how we will reach our destinations owing to so many things that are out of our control but what makes the journey, the destination all the sweeter, are the moments of wonderful things we experience along the way that shape who we become.
So my feeling is, don't be in a hurry to reach your destination... enjoy the ride, that is the most exciting bit. Embrace all the ups and downs, be grateful for the opportunities that come by your way and keep on truckin'... Your destination will always be just ahead of you.
