Welcome to December

Here we go! It is the final month of the year and what a year it has been! Although it is good to reflect, it is even more productive to plan for the coming year, blank pages ready to fill with lots of wonderful activities. Special thanks to everyone for supporting the Vivaitalia meetups, walks, cinema trips and restaurant occasions. We hope to do even more in 2017. Thank you also to Rosemary of the Benvenuto Club in Sanremo for sharing and supporting our news too. What a lively, interesting and caring expat community we are!

With all the usual and beautiful expat events taking place in the area, we didn't want to do the usual traditional Christmas outing. We hope to be back at Bar Scirocco in Portosole, Sanremo in 2017. We had a fun and lively meet up in November which took place just after the American election, so the conversation was... 'interesting'. Thank you to Erica and her team at Scirocco for looking after us. See PHOTOS.

* Vivaitalia Bordighera Apero Evening: Friday 30th December, starting at 6.00 pm. With people being in different places on New Year's Eve, we thought we would have one more meet up before the end of the year at our winter residence with Vanda and her Prestige Bar near the church in Bordighera Town. As always you are welcome to stay as long as you like and enjoy chatting with new and old friends! Our November Apero was very special and so much fun! See PHOTOS

On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

Christmas Market Dolceacqua: 10th and 11th December. Dolceacqua has a festive Christmas market taking place on the Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December in piazza Garibaldi and piazza Mauro starting early until 7 pm. There will be something for everyone. Full details (in Italian)

Charity Malar Trust

Last year on behalf of one of our lovely expats Maureen, we collected pens, pencils, crayons and little books so she could take them to India to a charity she and her husband Ernesto give their very own time to. The charity is Italian Registered and you can see the work they do here:  www.malartrust.org

Owing to transportation issues and cost, Maureen has suggested that it will be easier if money was given, so they can buy exactly what is needed when they arrive in India. Maureen and Ernesto will be travelling to India mid January, so you can contact Maureen directly for more information and to know more about their cause and mission. Email: torti_condon@yahoo.com
