Women Getting Real

It is very easy for a young woman to fall into the trappings of motherhood and then the career, the ambition, the independence fall by the wayside. The baby and the family monopolise the day, weeks and ever so quickly the years. And what then? It is undeniably the choice and the right of every woman to decide how she should choose to divide and live her life.

Cherie Blair

Cherie Blair, the wife of the former English Prime Minister Tony Blair has lashed out in fabour of women keeping a grip on keeping their professional independence and to focus on the career even though motherhood. She attacked what she has described as the 'Yummy Mummy' culture and the women who instead of building a strong business life for themselves, seek rich husbands and take an easy back seat.

Cherie Blair is all for the F-Word and believes that as a feminist, a woman can be a successful mother whilst continuing to grow her career.

Speaking at Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women event held at Claridge’s Hotel in London, Cherie Blair went on to say:

“Every woman needs to be self-sufficient and in that way you really don’t have a choice - for your own satisfaction; you hear these yummy mummies talk about being the best possible mother and they put all their effort into their children. I also want to be the best possible mother, but I know that my job as a mother includes bringing my children up so actually they can live without me.”

It is fair to say that women should be encouraged and motivated enough to maintain a financial independence for a time when she could find herself in need to re-invent or re-establish her life.

Brigitte Rupp a financial advisor, recently made the very same point by advising women to have control of her own financial future by encouraging women to make the necessary steps now to ensure that when the time comes, she has as many choices as possible.

It is a debate that has and will run for many years to come. Should a woman stay at home with her children or sacrifice children for a career and what does she need to run both successfully?
