Boosting Foods - Blow away the blues...

As the temperatures begin to fall and the days become shorter, we find that our energy levels are less and we become susceptible to those alien bugs and the dreaded flu. So The Riviera Woman sourced 5 foods to boost your immune system and help blow away the blues.

Garlic - Is already well known to have medicinal benefits so make sure you continue to use it when cooking. It can help to reduce your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Another benefit of garlic is that it helps to strengthen the white blood cells that help to fight off bugs and viruses.

Ginger - Ginger is wonderful not only for the taste but it helps to give you that inner warmth so needed in winter, as ginger warms the blood and so improve circulation in the body. If you suffer from heartburn, ginger works very well to relieve it. Ginger is extremely versatile so use it more often.

Broccoli - Broccoli is a worthy superfood. It is versatile and rich in vitamin B. Broccoli is also known as a 'smart carb' because it is high in fibre, which aids in digestion, prevents constipation, maintains low blood sugar, and curbs overeating. Broccoli is low in calories and can be enjoyed cooked or raw.

Mackerel - This fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids which are beneficial to our bodies. Mackerel is also low in saturated fats which serves to aid against heart disease, strokes and diabetes and dementia. So introducing mackeral into your diet will certainly help keep you on top form.

Grapefruit - All that vitamin C will strengthen our immune system. The grapefruit contains fibre and beneficial to the digestive system. It is low in calories and also helps to support clear and healthy skin.
