Anette Shine Reflects - The Story of Sunshine Yoga

Anette Shine was born in Denmark. She started teaching dancing & aerobics in her native city Copenhagen back in 1983 before moving to Monaco in 1990 with a work-contract as a soloist dancer in the Cabaret “Folie Russe” in her pocket.

The same year she took her very first yoga class with Valérie Medecin:

"THIS was something I felt was very special, something I connected with instantly and I knew I had to investigate further!"

Already a passionate ACE-certified fitness professional, Anette started teaching stretching and aerobics in all the local gyms in Monaco during the day and she did this for many years. In 2001, during her 500 hours teacher training in traditional Hatha Yoga with Shri Mahesh, she decided to go to California to learn the new “modern" active yoga style: Power Vinyasa Yoga, which turned out to be a life-changing experience.

Anette instantly knew that vinyasa yoga was for her and came back to Monaco and the French Riviera extremely enthusiastic and eager but only to find that no one knew about this style of yoga. Finding nowhere to take vinyasa yoga classes, she continued to practise by herself at home.

One day, in the midst of a head-stand, she heard an inner voice clearly saying: “YOU ARE THE ONE to open a yoga school and teach vinyasa yoga yourself!”... “What? Me??” Anette felt astonished! After this revelation, the right circumstances quickly presented themselves, and in January 2003, at the age of 38, Miss Shine founded the SUNSHINE STUDIO in Palais de la Scala, the International Center of Holistic Fitness in Monaco.

It was a great honour to receive the support from the Principality and Anette was delighted that Prince Albert himself kindly accepted to pose for a photo and said: “I must be the only one who still hasn't taken the class everyone is talking about!!

Sunshine Studio was an immediate success and a great inspiration for many many people, with almost 1000 students during the first 3 years. Anette and her Sunshine Team were pioneers in offering brand new classes such as Baby Boom (mother & baby), Prenatal Yoga, Yoga for children of all ages, Pilates Matwork, Yoga Pilates Fusion, Ashtanga Yoga Vinyasa and Indian dancing.

Sunshine Studio was pleased to welcome Bryan Kest, the founder of Power Yoga in California to Monaco as a guest teacher. Anette was the "Sunshine Vinyasa Yoga" presenter at the London Yoga Show (in English) idem at The Milano Yoga Festival (in Italian) She even represented Monaco in India during the Yoga Festival in Rishikesh in March 2005.

In the beginning of 2006 Sunshine Studio became the victim of its’ own success: the high cost of rent in Monaco which continually rose made it impossible to continue. To recall the phrase 'As one door closes...' Anette receives another divine opportunity and was able to re-establish her dream at the popular new hotel "Monte Carlo Bay" in July of the same year. The studio name changed to SUNSHINE YOGA and the adventure continued with additional pioneering classes such as Yin Yoga, Full Moon Yoga, Chanting, Yin-Yang Yoga, Astro Yoga, Hormone Yoga Therapy, New Moon Yoga, Yoga 23, Chakra balancing work-shops, Yoga for breast cancer and her very own class FEEL GOOD NOW.

In April 2011 Anette launched Zumba Fitness in Monaco. Once again Sunshine was honoured with the blessings from Prince Albert who attended the very first class.

Over the years Anette Shine has helped and launched nearly 30 new yoga instructors who are now flying on their own wings. Some of them have even opened their own yoga centres between Monaco and Cannes and so the yoga evolution continues.

"Nowadays becoming a yoga teacher is a trend, but the important thing is to stay true to fundamental yogic codes of ethics and teach from the heart. Yoga means “union” - the harmony between the body, mind, heart and soul."

After over 30 years of teaching, Anette has established herself as an expert and continues to shine and evolve. She is pleased to share her knowledge through daily Sunshine classes, monthly articles for The Riviera Woman, videos for ShawandaTV and being the private yoga coach to the stars that live in Monaco.

Anette & the Sunshine Team at the Monte-Carlo Bay wishes everyone a very HAPPY and HEALTHY New Year 2016!
