Film: The Price of Desire - Leading Lady is Cast

Cannes - Shannyn Sossamon has been signed to play iconic Irish architect Eileen Gray in the movie The Price of Desire by filmmaker Mary McGuckian (Man on the Train, The Bridge of San Luis Rey) from EG Film Productions Limited, LIghtstream Pictures and Saga Film.  Hawaiian born Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale and 40 Days and 40 Nights), will play opposite charming and exotic looking Swiss leading actor Vincent Perez as Le Corbusier, while Alanis Morissette, actress and multiple Grammy-winning singer/songwriter has been cast as Gray’s lover French singer and actress Marisa Damia.

Sossamon’s recently twitted “Happy about this surprising adventure,” referring to her leading role in the movie. The story focuses on the relationship between Eileen Gray (Sossamon) and the famous Swiss/French architect Le Corbusier (Perez) and how their connection to each other as well as with the site on which she built the first modern villa E1027 in Roquebrune Cap Martin, influenced and inspired a century of modern architecture. According to Mary McGuckian, it is a single character narrative done from a female perspective as well as an art film that the recent Pompidou retrospective on her work makes it suitable. She added that anybody who has an interest in modern architecture and design or the impact of creative women in society would certainly be attracted to this film. It is shooting on location at the Villa E1027 and Vezelay in France as well as in studio in Belgium where many of the Parisian interiors will be recreated. Director Mary McGuckian explains her film process is guided by the spirit of Eileen Gray, simple, streamlined and elegant and her goal is to give something back to her. McGuckian added that the architect’s right to be recognized as one of the most influential designers of the modern era may no longer be in dispute, but the insidious chauvinism to which her legacy was subjected in her lifetime is a salutary tale to all visual artists of the female gender.

The production has launched a kickstarter campaign to support the completion of the restoration of iconic E1027 Villa in Roquebrune Cap Martin, which will open to the public after the completion of principle photography.
