Pink Ribbon Monaco Walk
The 2nd Pink Ribbon Monaco Walk:
This will be held on Sunday March 17th at 9:00 am, (start at 9:45am) on the Port of Monaco.
At this date, hundreds of participants are expected, showing solidarity and support to victims of breast cancer.
Money raised during this event will help fund a spectroscopy scanner, an innovative and state of the art screening and post therapy follow-up device for use at the newly completed breast cancer screening centre of the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace (work starting March 2013).
The start of the walk will be at 9:45am on the port of Monaco, shortly after the end of the Monaco 10Km race. The small yet physical 4.5 km circuit, passing in front of the Palace, the Cathedral and the Oceanographic museum, will enable people of all ages and athletic level to participate and be a great photo opportunity for visitors and locals alike. Children and dogs welcome, and no medical certificate is required to participate. A circuit for people with restricted mobility is in the course of approval.
On the 17th of March, with the support of the Féderation Monégasque d’Athlètisme (FMA) the Principality of Monaco will perpetuate a philanthropic tradition already adopted throughout the world. Unlike other athletic events, participants will not be given a number to wear on their sport bib, but a blank area where they can write their message of support or homage to a victim of breast cancer. The object is not to make a good “time” but to participate in the highest numbers.

Why participate?
The Pink Ribbon Walk not only represents an awareness campaign and a fundraiser that will help put the new breast cancer screening centre on the map; it also bears a moving testimonial to the courage and strength of our sisters, mothers, wives and friends, all women who are battling, fighting or have lost to the disease. The event becomes a celebration honouring the life and courage of a victim who lost the fight. Many people joining are survivors or in remission.
I am a man: why should I participate?
Because women are not the only victims of breast cancer.
While a woman is fighting for her life, or loses the battle to breast cancer, husbands, brothers, fathers and sons also become victims. For this reason, men often participate in Pink Ribbon Walks and many other similar events throughout the world.
It must also be noted that men can also be diagnosed with breast cancer. 1 out of 100 diagnoses are men, and the numbers are going up. Pink Ribbon intends to educate on all aspects of the illness, and information regarding male breast cancer is on the agenda.
