Rolex Masters Finals, and the winner is...

The players came onto the court to the cheers of the crowd but only had time to warm up before it started to rain heavily and play was suspended, but luckily the sun made an appearance shortly after to allow for the finals of the Rolex Masters to take place.

World number 1 Serbian Novak Djokovic played flawless tennis and beat the defending champion Rafael Nadal in two straight sets, breaking the Spaniard’s 46-match winning streak at the Monte-Carlo Country Club and denying him of what would have been his ninth consecutive victory.  Receiving the trophy Djokovic declared he was very happy to win in Monte-Carlo where he lives and in the club where he trains regularly and where he has so many friends. Nadal congratulated him for winning “his own favourite tournament in the whole world” and promised to be back next year for more.

The doubles final between the Bryan Brothers and the pair Bennetau (FRA)/ Zimonjic (Serb) started under cloudy skies, the Americans won the first set, and the opposing team was up 3-0 in the second when rain paid a visit for a second time and the match was suspended and will probably continue tomorrow Monday.
