Woman of the Year 2012

FIRST EDITION OF “WOMAN OF THE YEAR 2012” IN MONTE-CARLO

On Thursday, August 30 at a gala dinner in the magnificent art deco Salle des Arts at the Sporting d’Hiver, Francoise Bardon and  Maria Betti both received the “Woman of the Year 2012” International Award.

The main objective was to honour women from all over the world, thanks to their personal or professional actions no matter in which sector of life. Mme Bardon is engaged in social work in Colombia for the association Mission Enfance helping defavorised children, and Mme Betti is in charge of the marine environment program at the International Agency of Atomic Energy (AIEA). This award ceremony was created by Italian journalist Cinzia Sgambati-Colman, under the sponsorship of Alliance Boots international leader in health and beauty and recently Partner of Walgreens the largest pharmaceutical chain in the USA.

The prize entitled “Mujer Ideal” is the work of Uruguayan sculpturer Pablo Atchugarry whose works of art have been part of auctions by Christie’s and Sotheby’s in London, New York, Paris and Amsterdam.

The members of the Jury were known personalities from Monaco: Stephane  Valerie, Minister of Health and Social Affairs of Monaco, Cinzia Sgambati-Colman, President of the Committee and Director of Monte-Carloin, Marietta Vinci Corsini, Antiques dealer and Administrator GIE – Point Art Monaco, Smadar Eisenberg, President AOPMC (Association of Friends of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte-Carlo), Simone Pastor, artistic patron, Marzia Lefebvre d’Ovidio, entrepreneur, Jose Giannotti, General Agent and Director of Generali Assurance.

The awards committee composed of a President and two permanent members and four other members nominated for two years, was responsible for the selection of the candidates and the final decision.

This event was preceded earlier that day by a debate at the Monaco Yacht Club entitled "Women and Future: The evolution of the species" with the participation of professionals from different walks of life, notably Maria Betti, Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Anna-Licia Balzan Moretti-Polegato, Entrepreneur and Honorary Consul of Monaco in Venice, Marina Mazza, past President of the Young Economic Chamber of Monaco and real state agent, Ornella Barra, CEO Wholesale Pharmaceutical Division of Alliance Boots and President of their CSR committee.
